Beth Phoenix grew up with a dream to be a part of professional wrestling. She became the first female amateur wrestler in her high school’s history to compete on its varsity team. Beth traveled the country for training necessary to make the transition from amateur wrestling to professional wrestling.
In May 2006, Phoenix debuted on Raw and assaulted then-WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James. As WWE fans searched for more information on her background, Trish Stratus provided some insight on Beth’s past with Mickie. Weeks later, Beth was announced as the newest WWE Diva. Unfortunately, she suffered a fractured mandible in a match against Victoria, and was sidelined for over one year.
She returned to Raw as a “Glamazon,” on the hunt for gold. After unsuccessful attempts at winning the WWE Women’s Championship from Candice, Phoenix finally picked up the win in October 2007 and ruled for five months. She lost the prize to rival Mickie James, but regained the title in “Winner Takes All Match” at SummerSlam in 2008.
“The Glamazon”‘s dominance continued and she was voted the 2008 “Diva of the Year” by the WWE Universe. She soon became involved with Santino Marella as the one-time rivals ignited a passionate romance. With the “Miracle from Milan” at her side, Beth became known as “Glamarella” and part of many entertaining segments on WWE television. At the 2010 Royal Rumble, she became only the second woman ever to compete in the dangerous battle royal, and used all of her assets to eliminate The Great Khali. Though a sudden tear of her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) put her career in jeopardy, she returned at the Survivor Series to help friend Natalya topple the tandem of Lay-Cool. On October 2, 2011, Phoenix once again etched her name into WWE history when she craftily captured her first Divas Championship.
