Dakota Kai appeared to sustain an injury to her leg during Friday’s NXT live event in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The apparent injury occurred during a Six-Woman Tag Team Match with Kai teaming with Kairi Sane and Candice LeRae against NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.
Kai was in a corner and went down. The referee threw up the “X” signal and personnel came from the backstage area to tend to Kai. She was then assisted to the back while favoring one leg and limping.
The match continued as a standard tag team match, which Sane and LeRae won via disqualification.
Kai did not work the remainder of the four-show tour, which concluded Sunday in Des Moines, Iowa, but she continued to travel with the crew. A fan who met several NXT wrestlers outside their bus on Sunday spotted Kai on crutches and with an ice wrap over her knee.
The fan met Candice LeRae and was told by her that the severity of Kai’s injury won’t be known until they return to Orlando, Florida.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Kai underwent an MRI on Monday and the results aren’t good. Though Meltzer was unable to provide specifics on the injury, he said that it is believed Kai tore her ACL, leaving her with a potential recovery time of six-to-nine months.
