Is Awesome Kong Really Retiring From Wrestling?
Over the weekend, a Japanese report announced that Kia Stevens, who is known as Awesome Kong in TNA and Amazing Kong everywhere else, would be retiring from wrestling after a doctor advised her to give it up due to health issues. ProWrestlingSheet.com, however, reports that she may not be ready to hang up the boots.
Sources close to Kong say her contract with TNA ends in January and if she’s not happy with their contract offer, she may retire and begin working on a new career. Until that time comes though, she will continue to wrestle in the United States.
Kong told ProWrestlingSheet.com, “Amazing Kong (her ring name in Japan) is retired from wrestling, but Awesome Kong has further obligations to attend.”
She remains a participant in the TNA World Title Series, which is now in its eighth week. Here is footage of her match against Brooke that aired on last Wednesday’s episode of Impact Wrestling, which was taped in July.
