Former WWE Star Joey Mercury Released From Jail

Former WWE Superstar Joey Mercury — real name Adam Birch — has been released from jail after being arrested earlier this month in Schaumburg, Illinois.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Birch was released from the Cook County Department of Corrections in Chicago, Illinois over the last 48 hours after being arrested on September 1 when law enforcement discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Orange County, Florida.

Johnson was told the warrant was in relation to an old “non-violent” issue. He was not charged with anything in Illinois.

Birch, a current producer at Ring of Honor, was in Illinois to work as a producer at the ALL IN pay-per-view event at the Sears Centre in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates. He was sleeping in his vehicle outside Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, the venue of the Starrcast convention. After running background checks on the snoozing motorist, they discovered that Birch was wanted for an outstanding warrant. He was promptly taken into custody and bail was set at $2,500.

Birch parted ways with WWE in January 2017, thus ending a seven-year tenure working both on-screen and off. Since leaving the company, he has been wrestling on the independent scene as Joey Matthews. He had been involved in the planning of ALL IN, including helping to put together the pre-show battle royal and work the gorilla position, but after his arrest, others stepped in to handle his duties.
