Rumor On WWE Considering Four Big Names As Ronda Rousey’s Tag Team Partner At WrestleMania 34

Ronda Rousey

Following her appearance at the Royal Rumble last month, it was reported that WWE plans on having Ronda Rousey make her in-ring debut at WrestleMania 34 in a Mixed Tag Team Match against Stephanie and Triple H.

According to a report this week by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, the four names WWE has in mind for Rousey’s partner are, in order of preference, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kurt Angle, Shane McMahon, and Seth Rollins.

As has been noted, WWE officials really want Johnson as Rousey’s tag team partner against Triple H and Stephanie. WWE actually wanted to do this match at WrestleMania 31 in March 2015. Instead, an in-ring segment took place that ended with Johnson and Rousey attacking Triple H, and then Rousey teasing putting Stephanie in an armbar.

It was reported two weeks ago by Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer that it is unknown whether a match with Johnson can be put together at this time. Johnson hasn’t been able to wrestle a significant match since WrestleMania 29 in April 2013. In a WrestleMania rematch against John Cena, he tore his abdominal and adductor tendons from his pelvis which giving Cena the Rock Bottom. This delayed filming of the Hercules movie for several weeks due to surgery to reattach the torn tendons and recovery.

Aside from a few second match with Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 in April 2016, Johnson has stayed out of the ring due to agreements with film companies that he would not wrestle.

If Johnson is unable to work the match, then Angle is likely to slide into an extremely high-profile spot at WrestleMania.

Shane McMahon is another possibility as Rousey’s partner, but he is in a prolonged storyline with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The outsider of the bunch is Seth Rollins, who fought Triple H at last year’s WrestleMania but has no set path or opponent for this year’s card.
