As noted, RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon announced on this week’s RAW that due to the success of the Cruiserweight Classic, WWE will be launching a new cruiserweight division that is exclusive to the RAW brand.

WWE posted this teaser for the division:

In an extremely bold move, Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon opened a whole new wing of the New Era by announcing that – following the success of the WWE Network exclusive Cruiserweight Classic – Monday Night Raw will be the exclusive host to a trailblazing WWE Cruiserweight division!

Although little is known about which competitors might be a part this exciting initiative, it is clear that newly-empowered Raw General Manager Mick Foley plans to utilize the fast-moving, high-flying athletes to help bring Raw to new heights. It’s believed that the September 4th live WWE CWC finale will be to crown the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion. PWInsider reports that WWE has not signed any new talents that are official for the division yet but expect to hear about cruiserweights being signed to full-time deals soon. It was reported over the weekend that WWE had new deals with Kota Ibushi and Gran Metalik, and were looking at signing other CWC competitors including Zack Sabre, Jr., Lince Dorado, Jack Gallagher, Akira Tozawa and Cedric Alexander. It’s also possible they use some veteran cruiserweight talents to help with the roster and to put some familiar faces on TV, such as Brian Kendrick or Tajiri.
