Many grappling fans would be surprised to learn that Velvet Sky is not at all like the arrogant Barbie Doll character she portrays herself as on TNA’s Impact Wrestling.
As one-half of The Beautiful People, an exclusive villainous group of TNA Knockouts whose character was that of conceited blondes who believed their beauty was above all others, the bombshell used her brains and sexuality to obtain whatever she desired.
Alongside Angelina Love, their mission is to “cleanse” the TNA Wrestling roster “one ugly person at a time.”
Sky’s persona, however, bears minimal resemblance to the girl behind the alter ego.
“I’m definitely not a fashion girly girl like my character portrays. Velvet Sky is more of a girly girl than I really am. I’m not a girly girl at all,” Sky, whose real name is Jamie Szantyr, told The Post and Courier.
The characters she and Love portray were inspired by socialite Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. But Sky says she couldn’t be more different.
“I don’t do my hair. I don’t do my makeup. I don’t care about flashy clothes. I wear what’s comfortable. I don’t do things because they’re in or they’re the new thing. I couldn’t tell you what was in right now. I couldn’t care less,” says Sky, who in high school competed in cheerleading, softball, cross-country, football, and track.
There is one noticeably similarity, says the 32-year-old, between her wrestling persona and herself outside of the ring.
“Velvet Sky the character is a hard-working, stand-up-for-yourself, no-nonsense type of girl, which relates to how I really am,” she says.
