She was born April Jeanette Mendez on March 19, 1987 (age 38) in Union City, New Jersey, United States. She is known for her time in WWE, performing under the ring name AJ Lee. After marrying fellow professional wrestler Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk, on June 13, 2014, she became known as AJ Mendez Brooks. This is her author name for her 2017 memoir, Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules, which became a New York Times best seller. Her current professional name is AJ Mendez.

Making her first appearance on Raw since 2015, AJ Lee came out wearing the Women’s Intercontinental Championship she stole from Becky Lynch three days earlier on SmackDown. Lee suggested a Mixed Tag Team Match pitting herself and CM Punk against Lynch and Seth Rollins, leading to a confrontation between both sides. Click here to see this segment in its entirety.

The night before at WWE TLC, AJ Lee, who was wearing a John Cena T-shirt, inserted herself into the Ladder Match for Dolph Ziggler’s World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank contract and helped Ziggler defeat John Cena by pushing Cena off a ladder. “Everyone keeps asking me why,” Lee said from atop a ladder. “I thought it would be obvious.” But before AJ could reveal her motives, Vickie Guerrero made her way to the ring with Cena and Ziggler following. Cena teamed with Guerrero to face Ziggler and Lee in a Mixed Tag Team Match. The match ended with Big E Langston making his official WWE debut by attacking Cena. Paige’s meteoric, three-month rise to the top of the Divas division made believers out of almost everyone in the WWE Universe. But she didn’t exactly convince AJ Lee, who Paige defeated the night after WrestleMania 30 to claim the title in the first place. The Black Widow’s return to WWE left Paige on the defensive to begin with, and initially The Diva of Tomorrow refused to put her title on the line. AJ managed to goad the champion into a match and, thanks to a surprise roll-up, reclaimed the title. Click here to see their confrontation and match.

WWE Champion CM Punk and World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus joined forces against their opponents for No Way Out, Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler. AJ was at ringside supporting Punk and to combat Vickie Guerrero. Lee and Guerrero had an altercation that ended with Guerrero kicking Lee onto the ring apron and running away. Kane (who faced Punk and Bryan in a WWE Championship Triple Threat Match at No Way Out) emerged, picked up Lee and carried her up the ramp. Punk then attacked Kane, resulting in AJ being dropped on the ramp. Kane and Punk then brawled over to the ring, which ended with Kane chokeslamming both Punk and Bryan to the canvas.
