Check out these photos of Leah Van Dale, the founder of snatch. She is also a professional wrestler, dancer, model and mother. Van Dale is known for her tenure with WWE from 2013 to 2025, where she performed under the ring name Carmella. She held the SmackDown Women’s Championship (now known as the Women’s World Championship), WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship and WWE 24/7 Championship.

Though Van Dale last performed for WWE in 2023, she remained under contract to the sports-entertainment organization until 2025. To keep it simple, we’re referring to her as Carmella in regards to events that took place during her tenure in WWE.

On August 6, 2022, Carmella sustained an injury during a Triple Threat Match against Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair and Asuka at a non-televised event in North Charleston, South Carolina. She went on hiatus to close out 2022. She returned on Raw on January 30, 2023, and referred to herself again as The Princess of Staten Island. The following week on Raw, Carmella defeated Candice LeRae, Mia Yim, and Piper Niven in a Fatal 4-Way Match to qualify for the women’s Elimination Chamber Match at Elimination Chamber on February 18, 2023. Carmella failed to win the Elimination Chamber Match after tapping out to Asuka’s Asuka Lock.

Carmella then formed a partnership with Chelsea Green, but disappeared from television again in March. Carmella revealed on Good Morning America on May 1, 2023, that she is expecting her first child with Graves. They announced on Instagram that she gave birth to a boy, Dimitri Paul Polinsky, on November 8, 2023.

On February 21, 2025, Fightful reported that Carmella’s contract with WWE had recently expired. Her profile on WWE.com was moved to the Alumni section the following day, which generally indicates that a performer has parted ways with WWE. She confirmed her departure from WWE in an interview that aired on the nationally syndicated daytime television talk show, Tamron Hall, on April 3, 2025. She was introduced as Leah Van Dale. During an appearance on The Nikki & Brie Show in May 2024, Carmella said she was recovering from a debilitating condition called foot drop (aka drop foot), which, according to Mayo Clinic, is “a general term for difficulty lifting the front part of the foot.”

Expecting her first child, Carmella shows off her baby bump while at home. She posted this photo on June 30, 2023, on Instagram Stories and wrote, “Happy Friday (sunglasses emoji).”

When asked about a return to the ring, Carmella stated, “Of course. I miss the fans. I miss performing. I fell in love with that and have been doing it for 11 years. More than anything, I want to prove to myself, ‘I can go through this insane experience of labor, delivering, pregnancy, and my body is completely different from the inside out,’ but I’d love to go back and prove that I can. No one else, just to myself.”

After Sasha Banks and Naomi said they’re the next WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Carmella and Queen Zelina accepted their challenge. Carmella then said when they win, she’ll bring Corey Graves in the ring and “put on a show.”

Carmella continued, “Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with, what is called drop foot. I have an injury from labor and delivery and pushing the baby out. I have herniated discs in my back, which push on this nerve that is connected to my right foot. The top of my foot, it’s hard to lift. I’m literally limping around everywhere. It’s gotten better, but I’ve been wrestling for 11 years, and other than some concussions, knock on wood, never had any injuries. Now, I have a major injury from delivering my son.”

Carmella, who now goes under the name Leah Van Dale, wore this dress again for an Instagram video the former WWE Superstar posted on March 27, 2025, outside her current home in Pittsburgh regarding the weather. On December 17, 2024, Carmella expressed her desire to return to the ring while speaking to Bayley on Instagram Live.

“I love being a mom. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done ever, in my whole entire life. That being said, of course, I miss WWE,” Carmella said. “Of course, I miss everyone. I miss being Carmella. I miss performing. I miss it so much. I wish I had an update for you guys. For those that don’t know, I have some nerve damage in my foot from delivering Dimitri. I have what’s called Drop Foot. It’s this nerve behind your knee. It sucks. I wrestled for ten to twelve years, never had an injury, knock on wood, and now I’m doing physical therapy, going to the chiropractor, getting MRIs, and doing all this stuff that I never thought I would be doing, but here we are.”

Following her departure from WWE, the American professional wrestler famously known as Carmella refers to herself as Leah Van Dale. Since Van Dale has yet to say that she is retired from wrestling, she can still be considered a professional wrestler. In addition to wrestling, acting, fashion blogging and being a mom, Van Dale is also the founder of snatch.

Her full real name is Leah Marie Vandale, and she was born on October 23, 1987 (age 38) in Spencer, Massachusetts, United States. She is also known as Mella Is Money (on X) and The Princess of Staten Island. But no matter what, she’ll always be known as Carmella.

Despite calling herself The Princess of Staten Island, Carmella possesses enough New York grit for all five boroughs. Her fabulous debut in October 2014 put the entire NXT women’s locker room on notice, as Carmella displayed a potent submission move in a decisive win over Blue Pants.

Carmella gained valuable experience in NXT, competing against Alexa Bliss, Emma, Eva Marie and Nia Jax. In July 2016, she got drafted to SmackDown and made an immediate impact. Carmella won the first-ever Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, and after holding on to her championship-opportunity briefcase for nearly a year, cashed in on Charlotte Flair to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship on SmackDown LIVE on April 10, 2018.

Despite her incredible achievements, Carmella ruthlessly reemerged on SmackDown in October 2020 with an “untouchable” persona, making it clear that her best days still lay ahead. If that wasn’t enough, the stunning Superstar then became The Most Beautiful Woman in All of WWE.

On October 1, 2021, Carmella began wearing a protective face mask that assistants would provide at ringside. She joined Raw the following week via the WWE Draft and formed a tag team with Queen Zelina in November 2021. On November 22, 2021, they beat Nikki A.S.H and Rhea Ripley to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.

On night two of WrestleMania 38, Carmella and Zelina lost the titles to Naomi and Sasha Banks in a Fatal 4-Way Match, which also included the team of Natalya and Shayna Baszler, as well as the team of Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. Following the loss, the partnership between Carmella and Zelina became fractured beyond repair as the two could no longer coexist. The royal Superstar went on the attack the following night on Raw, but The Most Beautiful Woman in WWE found herself right at home in the warm embrace of her soon-to-be husband.

Carmella and Graves got married on April 7, 2022. The Most Beautiful Woman in WWE returned to action on June 20, 2022, defeating Bliss, Asuka, Lynch and Morgan on Raw to earn the right to face Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. They faced off at Money in the Bank on July 2, 2022, as Carmella lost to The EST of WWE.
