John Cena May Not Wrestle At SummerSlam, Back-up Plan Made For World Heavyweight Title Match

Seth Rollins vs. John Cena

After weeks of speculation and doubts due to John Cena’s broken nose, the big title match was made official on Tuesday for SummerSlam: Seth Rollins will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Cena, who will put the United States Championship one the line in a match where the winner will control both titles.

Although this match has been announced, it is not a guarantee that Cena will be able to compete since he is still recovering from his severely broken nose. For those wondering why WWE held Randy Orton vs. Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens and then Orton vs. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins on Raw, it’s because they wanted a backup plan for SummerSlam just in case Cena can’t wrestle.

If Cena is unable to compete, the plan coming out of Raw was for Rollins to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Orton and Sheamus in a Triple Threat Match. However, if Cena can work as planned, Orton will most likely face Sheamus. Orton had been the odd man out for WWE’s plans for SummerSlam, and he is scheduled to feud with Sheamus.
