Latest News On Rey Mysterio Possibly Returning To WWE

Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio is officially one of the pre-order bonus characters for WWE 2K19.

During Raw this week, a commercial aired with Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, The Miz, Bobby Roode, Asuka, Bobby Lashley, Charlotte Flair, and AJ Styles wearing Mysterio masks and revealing what they think of him. The commercial ends with Mysterio saying he’s “back.”

A text message then flashed saying you can pre-order and play as Mysterio.

This announcement has naturally led to fans expecting Mysterio to return to WWE at some point.

“At this point, no deal has been agreed to but I expect to happen, maybe even going so far as to say I strongly expect it to happen in relatively short order,” Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“Really, it’s been pretty much more of a when than if since the reaction at the Royal Rumble and how well he was moving opened up strong interest from WWE. It’s a matter of working out the money and dates but my impression is they are close on both. This is one of those situations where WWE will likely announce it as soon as the deal is done because they very much want to break the announcement themselves.”

Mysterio’s inclusion in the game was handled similarly to that of Ultimate Warrior, Sting and Bill Goldberg since negotiations for all four wrestling legends to appear in WWE 2K were handled by 2K Sports and not WWE. In the case of Warrior, Sting, and Goldberg, their inclusion in the game got them speaking to WWE and all three wound up making deals to appear for the company. Mysterio’s situation is different since the door for him to return was opened a long time ago, and he already has. Him appearing in the game doesn’t really change anything on him returning since he already has a good relationship with WWE and just chooses to work independently.

During Rey Mysterio Day in San Diego, California last week, Mysterio said he was possibly getting ready to return to WWE if they could agree to terms and said the sides were negotiating a three-year deal.

Mysterio also mentioned that he has more dates with New Japan Pro Wrestling scheduled, but that he’ll return to WWE “if the contract ends up being in the right form, or terms.”
