WWE Makes Back-up Plans For Title Match At SummerSlam In Case John Cena Can’t Wrestle

SummerSlam

There’s a very strong possibility that the “Title for Title” match at SummerSlam won’t take place.

Last week on Raw, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins challenged United States Champion John Cena to put both of their belts on the line at SummerSlam, although Cena has yet to accept publicly. He’s currently on the shelf after surgery from a broken nose he suffered at the hands of Rollins during Raw on July 27.

So where does this leave the match? As WWE COO Triple H mentioned during Raw this week, Cena is 50-50 in terms of being healthy enough to compete at the Barclays Center on Aug. 23.
If Cena can’t compete, WWE has back-up plans in place.

Dave Meltzer mentioned after Raw on Wrestling Observer Radio that the lead proposals are a singles match between Rollins and Orton, and a Triple Threat Match between Rollins, Orton and Sheamus. This is why Rollins defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Orton on Raw, with Sheamus costing “The Viper” the match.

Meltzer added that if Cena can go, WWE will resort to their original creative plan: Cena vs. Orton vs. Sheamus vs. Rollins in a Fatal 4-Way Match.

Next Monday’s Raw is where the final decision will be made because Cena’s condition will be better known at that time.
