The promotion of Tyler Breeze to WWE’s main roster is as a result of the fallout from the Rusev and Lana controversy.
Summer Rae has a lot of support backstage after giving a number of impressive performances in her role as the manager of Rusev. While Vince McMahon and Triple H have always liked her, the WWE Chairman wasn’t sold on her until the storyline. Fearing she would get lost in the shuffle, WWE higher-ups decided to call up Breeze from NXT to keep her strong character on television.
On the Oct. 5 episode of Raw, Rae proposed to Rusev in the storyline, but said he would not marry her until he had won another championship. However, on Oct. 11, TMZ reported that Rusev had gotten engaged to Lana in real life. Lana then confirmed the engagement and it began being used in the storyline on television, which resulted in Rae breaking up with him on the Oct. 12 episode of Raw. During a Miz TV segment between Rae and Ziggler on the Oct. 22 episode of SmackDown, she introduced Breeze as her “new man.” Breeze then attacked Ziggler to launch a feud between the two.
Breeze, whose real name is Mattias Clement, had been in WWE’s developmental system for five years. While he has the support of Triple H, McMahon isn’t quite sold on him yet and therefore could easily get lost in the shuffle. He’s really going have to stand out now to avoid being just another guy on the roster.
