Rey Mysterio Teaming With Braun Strowman At WrestleMania?, Why Rusev Was Added To U.S. Title Match

Could Rey Mysterio be wrestling at WrestleMania 34?

Mysterio did not wrestle at this past Sunday’s New Japan show due to his bicep injury. However, according to a report by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated on Wednesday, if Mysterio is healthy by WrestleMania, he is expected to work a match.

Permitting Mysterio can work, two sources close to WWE confirmed that Vince McMahon is strongly considering using Mysterio as Braun Strowman’s tag team partner against Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Sheamus.

The idea of the biggest and smallest working together is something McMahon would like to do. If Mysterio only works a short-term deal, the partnership also works as he can take the pinfall instead of Strowman.

If Mysterio returns to WWE for WrestleMania, it is currently expected to be a short-term deal.

Dave Meltzer disputed the report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter published today, saying that while Mysterio has been in talks with WWE, no one has brought up anything about him competing at WrestleMania.

In other WrestleMania news, Meltzer reports that Rusev was moved from the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal to the United States Championship Match with titleholder Randy Orton, Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode due to strong “Rusev Day” merchandise sales. This was set up on SmackDown LIVE this week in a tag team match where Rusev and Mahal beat Orton and Roode when Rusev pinned Roode.
