It was reported over the weekend by WrestleVotes that WWE planned on having Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson win the 2019 Men’s Royal Rumble Match and facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 35 — presumably for the Universal Championship.
With Reigns on hiatus due to his ongoing battle with leukemia, those plans are out the window, but WrestleVotes speculates that Johnson could still return to win the Royal Rumble and challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor Dave Meltzer, this rumor is not true.
“This didn’t sound believable, but I checked. Not true at all,” Meltzer wrote on the F4WOnline.com.
WrestleVotes is standing by their story.
