Dana Brooke Considered Quitting WWE Last Month

Dana Brooke considered quitting WWE last month after her scheduled match with Natalya on Raw on February 11 got canceled.

After costing them their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match against The Riott Squad on the January 28 episode of Raw, Brooke tried to apologize to Natalya the following week, but wound up getting the silent treatment from “The Queen of Harts.” In her defense, Natalya was wearing Apple AirPods and didn’t hear anything Brooke had to say.

When Natalya “ignored” her, Brooke said she would ask the McMahon family for a chance to prove she’s a better competitor by facing “The Queen of Harts” on Raw the following week.

Without explanation, the match didn’t go down and their angle was dropped. It was ultimately cut from rAW due to constraints and because it didn’t fit on the “go home” show for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

Brooke opened up on this on Lilian Garcia’s “Chasing Glory” podcast.

“In life, you’re always gonna have obstacles put in your path. I am a prime example. Ever since I was a little girl to where I am now, you control your own destiny. As much as WWE — they kind of guide you on a path of where you’re gonna lead to and where your path is gonna go,” Brooke said after Garcia brought up the topic.

“People pass you before your eyes,” she continued. “It takes a toll on your heart.”

Brooke then compared her experience in WWE to that of a baseball player who only gets given one play before being told to go back to the bench.

“When I was told that ‘your match isn’t happening,’ at that point in time I was just like, ‘No. This place does not define me. I am stronger than this. I wanna go to prove to the world that you can’t keep me down’,” Brooke said, before listing some of the difficult challenges she’s faced in life, such as the death of her boyfriend back in August 2017.

“I said, ‘You know something, if I quit now, what kind of example am I gonna be for everyone that’s followed me. Who’s supported me. Who’s been my backbone through the hardest time’,” she added. “I cannot give up now.”
