Who Is WWE Reaching Out To For The Second Annual Mae Young Classic?

Mae Young Classic

Following the success of the Mae Young Classic, WWE will be holding another one this summer.

WWE plans on holding the second annual Mae Young Classic on Tuesday, August 7 and Wednesday, August 8 at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. There is no word yet on when the event will air. These dates have not been officially announced but those contacted for the tournament were told to keep those dates open for the tapings.

It looks like the second annual Mae Young Classic will feature competitors from last year’s tournament, talent from NXT and the WWE Performance Center, and some who have tried out for WWE in the past.

According to PWInsider, WWE has reached out to some talent from last year’s tournament and women who have gotten tryouts in the past at the Performance Center. No names were given.

WWE recently signed Toni Storm, who competed in last year’s tournament. Her contract, however, is a UK deal and not a developmental contract where she trains at the WWE Performance Center. This allows her to still work independent events when not booked with WWE.

The details of the contract were not in the report but it was said that Storm will have to take any date offered by WWE. Even though Pete Dunne has been WWE United Kingdom Champion for over a year, he has been able to wrestle all over the world for different promotions.

Storm is currently STARDOM’s World of STARDOM Champion, holding that title for more than 242 days and is under contract with the promotion through July.

She may still work the Stardom 5 Star Grand Prix tournament in August and September but has to keep her schedule open to ensure WWE gets first rights on any dates.

There is no word yet on if Storm will be working the Mae Young Classic or making any NXT appearances but she is advertised for the WWE UK Title tournament events on June 18 and June 19 in London, England.

In last year’s Mae Young Classic, Storm lost to winner Kairi Sane in the semi-finals.
