Backstage Notes on WWE Not Paying NXT Stars a Percentage of the Gate for Events

Finn Bálor

– Regarding pay for WWE NXT talents, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently noted that talents under developmental deals have not been getting bonuses for working the bigger events outside of Florida. The NXT stars who worked the NXT event during WrestleMania weekend in California were not paid a percentage of the gate. No word yet on if they were paid for NXT “Takeover: Brooklyn” this past weekend but that event likely had a gate well over $500,000.

It was noted that the internal reasoning for not paying the NXT talents has been NXT and developmental as a whole are big money losers, the talents are on guaranteed money deals and overall the shows are already losing money without having to pay the talents a percentage of the gate. NXT talents working in Florida have no real road expenses and the feeling is that they are already being paid to learn through their deals.

However, when a NXT talent is brought on the road to WWE’s main roster shows, they do have their road expenses covered and they get paid. Contracted main roster talents do not have their road expenses covered.
