Paige’s First Public Comments About Her WWE In-Ring Career Possibly Being Over

Less than two months after returning from neck surgery, it appears that Paige’s in-ring career with WWE is over.

PWInsider.com reported on Friday that Paige “was informed this week that she will not be cleared to return to the ring” after suffering an injury last month. The report states that the situation has been described as similar to Edge’s medical disqualification from in-ring competition in 2011 and that it’s believed Paige was given the news at Raw on Monday.

F4WOnline.com and Pro Wrestling Sheet have also confirmed the news with multiple sources.

Paige suffered the injury when she was kicked in the back by Sasha Banks during a Six-Woman Tag Team Match at a house show in Uniondale, New York on Dec. 27. The match was stopped and a stretcher was brought out, but she was able to walk to the back with assistance and there was initial optimism as the injury was originally believed to be a stinger.

Paige was scheduled to compete the first-ever 30-Woman Over-The-Top Royal Rumble Match on Jan. 28, though whether she was going to be cleared in time was in question even before this report.

Despite the injury, Paige has continued to work live events by offering instruction to Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville from ringside. She has not, however, gotten physical nor have wrestlers gotten physical with her. Whether she’ll be used in a similar role going forward remains to be seen.

An Instagram post by Paige shows she has optimism for the future and a determination not to give up without a fight.

She uploaded a recent photo of herself on Monday Night Raw, stood in the corner of the ring on the second rope with the following caption: “The comeback is always stronger than the setback ❤️ @wwe.”
