In a hard-fought battle, Jericho pinned Naito after hitting with him a Codebreaker to capture the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.

After winning the match, Jericho continued to attack Naito until EVIL ran the new champion off.

With the win, Jericho becomes the first person to hold both WWE and IWGP’s version of the title. In WWE, Jericho held the Intercontinental Championship a record-setting nine times, so it seems only fitting that he won one the same country he cut his teeth in for many years.

Jericho’s future with New Japan Pro Wrestling seemed up in the air following his loss to Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January, though this title win would seem to suggest that he will be sticking around in Japan for a while to come (and not returning to WWE).

After the show, Jericho posted a photo of himself with the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.
