Her real name is Kanako Urai (浦井 佳奈子, Urai Kanako) and she was born on September 26, 1981 (age 43) in Osaka, Japan. Prior to joining WWE in 2015, she wrestled under the ring name Kana. She maintains the name for her YouTube channel. She is also known as The Empress.

Asuka continues to reel after losing the WWE Women’s Championship to Bianca Belair at SummerSlam at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on August 5, 2023. On August 10, 2023, she posted this photo on X and wrote, “What am I gonna do!”
