John Cena and Kurt Angle To Compete In Eight-Man World Cup Tournament At WWE Crown Jewel

John Cena

John Cena and Kurt Angle are the first two WWE Superstars confirmed for WWE’s World Cup Tournament.

The tournament takes place at WWE Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 2 and WWE provided more details about it on Raw. There will be eight wrestlers in WWE’s World Cup, with four coming from Raw and four coming from SmackDown LIVE.

The first Superstar announced for the groundbreaking competition is Cena. The explanation for Cena being announced for the tournament is that he doesn’t have to qualify due to his tremendous accomplishments over the years.

Angle returned to Raw for the first time since the storyline where he was sent on vacation by Stephanie McMahon and she named Baron Corbin the brand’s Acting General Manager. Angle won a 10-Man Global Battle Royal to qualify for the WWE World Cup Tournament. The entrants in the Global Battle Royal were Corbin and enhancement wrestlers, with Angle dressed as the masked Conquistador. Angle waited outside the ring until only Corbin was left, then gave him three German suplexes and an Angle Slam before eliminating “The Lone Wolf” and revealing his identity.

Angle last wrestled in April at the Greatest Royal Rumble as he competed in the first-ever 50-Man Greatest Royal Rumble Match.

Two WWE World Cup Qualifying Matches are set for tonight’s episode of SmackDown LIVE. Big Show will face Randy Orton while Jeff Hardy will take on Samoa Joe.
