WWE Recently Changed Plans For Asuka’s Opponent At WrestleMania 35

WrestleMania 35 is only a few weeks away and the WWE creative team seems undecided on who will challenge Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

According to a report by John Pollock of POST Wrestling, WWE planned on having Lacey Evans challenge Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The idea, however, was scrapped last month.

Dave Meltzer also reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Asuka vs Evans was “official” at one point, but was taken off the “official” card a few weeks ago.

There’s no word on who WWE has in mind for Asuka’s opponent. Given all the time WWE has spent building up Evans on television, it’s possible that she ends up challenging Asuka, but in a multi-woman match. WWE did one two years ago with Naomi winning the SmackDown Women’s Championship by defeating five competitors in a Six-Pack Challenge.

For what it’s worth, Lana posted a video on her YouTube channel on Monday issuing a challenge to Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania.

Lana talked about Mandy Rose “announcing” that she would be facing Asuka at WWE Fastlane so she did the same for WrestleMania.

“Breaking news is happening, breaking news. I am declaring that I am going to face Asuka at WrestleMania for the Women’s SmackDown LIVE title,” Lana said.

It appears that Lana went into business for herself as WWE has yet to acknowledge her challenge.
