WWE released ECW wrestler Gavin Spears (real name Ronnie Arniell) on Friday. WWE has yet to announce Spears' release on the company website, but he's confirmed to be gone.
Spears had been affiliated with WWE for nearly three years as he signed his developmental contract on January 21, 2006. Spears had a successful run in Ohio Valley Wrestling, winning the Southern Tag Team Championships on four occasions as well as the OVW Television Championship three times over.
Spears made his WWE debut on the ECW brand this past August as part of General Manager Theodore Long's new talent initiative. Spears lost to Ricky Ortiz in his debut match. He lost to Super Crazy in his second match, but before the match, cut a promo claiming to be "the crown jewel of the talent initiative." After nearly two months of inactivity, Spears returned to television on December 16th in a losing effort to Finlay. Spears did not win a single match during his time WWE.
Spears kept busy on Florida Championship Wrestling shows during his time of infrequent use in WWE.
