Since May, rumors have been running rampant that Paige and Alberto Del Rio are now a couple.

Rumors of Alberto Del Rio and Paige dating emerged on May 12, 2016 as the two were photographed arm-in-arm that day on a romantic visit to Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park in Bay Lake, Florida.
The rumor initially gained steamed on social media after a fan who met Paige at the theme park claimed on Facebook that they were holding hands while pushing Del Rio’s child in a stroller. A short while later, this photo surfaced online of the two posing together with fans.
The pics kept rolling in as a photo of Del Rio and Paige kissing in public really got fans buzzing.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, the two hooked up shortly before WrestleMania 32, which took place on April 3, 2016 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
“We’ve received emails about this since before WrestleMania but usually make it our policy to not report on the personal lives of those within professional wrestling. However, since they have publicly outed that they are involved by going to Disneyland and being photographed kissing in public, we can confirm that Paige and Alberto Del Rio are dating,” he reported the day after the photos surfaced.
Johnson continued, “Whether any of that makes it to the Total Divas reality series, we’ll have to see when the series returns for a new season next year, but it is a legitimate relationship.”
Since the photos came out, the couple has remained public about their relationship on social media and often seen out together. Here are photos and messages Paige posted on Twitter and Instagram expressing her love for Del Rio.
Paige even once said that Del Rio caused her ovaries to explode.
Fans catch rare glimpses of their favorite wrestlers when the spotlight goes off and feel quite hurt if they are caught unaware by one development or another. Broken hearts and a fifteen-year age difference aside (Paige is 24-years-old, whereas Alberto Del Rio is 39), their romance actually seems natural considering they both have wrestling in their blood.
The two-time Divas Champion’s parents, Ian Bevis and Julia Hamer-Bevis, as well as her two older brothers, Zak Frary and Roy Bevis, are professional wrestlers. Her family owns and operates their own wrestling promotion in Norwich, Norfolk, England — World Association of Wrestling (WAW). Her mother also runs Bellatrix Female Warriors, a women’s wrestling promotion that is also based in Norwich.
Like Paige, Del Rio comes from a wrestling family. In fact, he is a member of one of the most respected families in Mexican wrestling. His father is notable luchador Dos Caras, while his uncle is the legendary Mil Máscaras — Mascaras was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012 by Del Rio. He is also the nephew of Sicodelico, and his cousins are Sicodelico Jr. and Hijo de Sicodelico. His younger brother, Guillermo Rodriguez, wrestled for NXT from 2012 to 2013 under the name Memo Montenegro — Paige was wrestling for NXT at the same time.
Two weeks after Alberto Del Rio and Paige went public with their romance at a Disney theme park, the couple took their relationship to the next level.
Paige got a tattoo seemingly inspired by Del Rio on May 26, 2016; a finger tattoo reading “Papi” in small letters.
In another confirmation that they are, in fact, a couple, the two-time Divas Champion got inked at Club Tattoo in Las Vegas, Nevada with Del Rio by her side. A photo of the tattoo quickly surfaced on social media along with a shot of Paige and Del Rio — Del Rio for some reason was shirtless.
The artist who tattooed Paige posted a photo of her work on Instagram and remarked:
I did the tiniest of letters today on @realpaigewwe, who was very easy going and chill as f**k. #tatsoul #darksidemachine #clubtattoolasvegas #clubtattoomiraclemile #clubtattoolasvegasmm #wwe #wwefans #papi #dontforgetthechulo
Club Tattoo noted on its Instagram account that Del Rio got inked as well. It is quite visible since he now has a large cross with a ribbon around it tattooed on the left side of his torso.
In July, Corey Graves met up with Paige at the Empire State Tattoo Expo in New York City to find out about the rebellious Superstar’s tattoos for his WWE Network show, Superstar Ink. In a video clip WWE released promoting her appearance, the “Anti-Diva” showed off her “Papi” tattoo. However, those looking for any insight into her relationship with Del Rio, or any explanation at all, will be disappointed.
As you can see in this video, Paige brings up the tattoo in response to Graves talking about pieces that are “just something silly, that makes you laugh.”
On September 13, 2016, Paige briefly shared a photo on Instagram of a second tattoo she got in honor of Del Rio. After the post was flooded with negative comments saying she will regret her decision, Paige deleted it (but not before the picture was saved).
The tattoo is located on her ribs and simply says “Alberto,” which is the wrestler’s middle name. She included a caption that read, “When you love someone so much you give it all for. Not the expression, no literally give it all for.”
Fans pointed out that the quote appears to resemble lyrics from the Eminem song When I’m Gone. It’s worth noting that the track is apparently about the rapper’s life as a celebrity interfering with his family.
It was not first time Paige has deleted Instagram posts about Del Rio. Following the 2016 WWE Draft, which led to the couple being split apart on the road — Paige was drafted to Raw, while Del Rio was sent to SmackDown LIVE — Paige deleted all photos of the two together. This led to rumors that they had broken up. She later reposted the photos and added a new one of them out on a date.
Is Paige dating a married man?
Many websites, including Google, have said that Alberto Del Rio has a wife by the name of Angela Rodríguez. It has also been rumored that they are the parents of two daughters, Estephanie and Sophie, and a son named Joseph. Other than that, there is little information online regarding Angela.
A photo from their wedding at a church in Mexico did, however, leak online.
While Del Rio’s relationship with the Total Divas star would indicate that he is divorced, we could not say that with certainty. However, during a tour of India in July 2016 promoting WWE, the 39-year-old claimed that he is divorced (and therefore free to date Paige).
During an interview with NDTV where he discussed the process of being a video game character, Del Rio mentioned that he has an ex-wife.
“It feels like the real me. What they do with all those scans, it’s just amazing, it even captures all my expressions. When you’re playing the game, he moves just like me. I love playing with myself … that sounds like something my ex-wife would say,” Del Rio said with a laugh.
On August 22, 2016, Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet published a report revealing a nasty divorce battle between Del Rio and Angela.
The report was based on court documents Satin obtained that were filed at the end of June by Angela — the documents also revealed Angela’s maiden name as Velkei. She claims their marriage ended on May 27, 2016 due to adultery on the part of Del Rio, as well as discord and conflict in the relationship.
While it’s not specifically mentioned, the listed break-up date occurred two weeks after Del Rio and Paige went public with their relationship. Satin’s sources say the date is not a coincidence, implying that the relationship between the two wrestling stars and/or the photos publicizing it are key to the proceedings.
Del Rio is telling a different story, however. In documents filed the week before the report came out, the wrestler alleged their relationship ended in June 2015 because Velkei was “guilty of cruel treatment” towards him.
His legal team pushed for the case to be processed in Mexico, where the couple got married — Del Rio filed for divorce in the country in July 2016. Because of that, they believe Mexico should have “dominant jurisdiction over the proceedings.”
They also requested that Velkei be ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Velkei attorneys, Raymond Rafool and Richard Orsinger, have asked the judge to issue a restraining order to limit contact between the two.
Both sides are pursuing full custody of their children, as well as ownership of assets such as their house and her car.
We’ll update you here with any pertinent details of the divorce proceedings as we get them.
Before the two hooked up, Alberto Del Rio had a fling with Charlotte. The daughter of 16-time World Champion Ric Flair was previously married to Thomas Latimer, a fellow wrestler better known to fans as Bram in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling. After their divorce was finalized on October 29, 2015, this left Charlotte free to date or be with whoever she wanted.
Del Rio returned to WWE that same month and briefly hooked up with Charlotte shortly thereafter. Now that he is with Paige, the relationship has caused tension between the two starlets. Their interactions with each other at work have been awkward, according to people in WWE, and the two are obviously not the best of friends.
Vince McMahon, who is fond of using a wrestler’s real life in angles, is aware of their tension behind the scenes. He has used real life tension to fuel rivalries over the years, most notably in 2005 with Edge and Matt Hardy. The Chairman apparently had Charlotte and Paige wrestle each other on the May 9, 2016 edition of Raw to see if they would remain professional; there was nothing that would indicate they were taking physical liberties with each other.
In an attempt to draw some heat to their 2015 rivalry, Paige disparaged Charlotte’s late brother Reid — he died of a drug overdose on March 29, 2013 — on an episode of Raw. During a contract signing on November 16, 2015 for a Divas Championship Match at the Survivor Series, the “Anti-Diva” snarked, “He didn’t have enough fight in him, did he?” This led Charlotte to lunge across the table at her challenger, instigating a massive brawl that took a whole fleet of referees to put an end to.
It has been rumored that the program was ended prematurely due to Paige’s controversial remark. This, however, means there is still a lot they can do in WWE. Following their May 2016 match, McMahon told the creative staff to brainstorm some ideas in case he decides to revive their feud.
Following WWE’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 19, 2016, rumors were running rampant that Paige had been arrested — photos circulated on social media showing the Total Divas star being escorted to an ambulance in handcuffs.
This naturally led to fan speculation that her “arrest” was fictitious and that she was being filmed for an upcoming episode of Total Divas or the WWE Network show Swerved. According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the incident was legitimate and Paige was indeed detained by law enforcement near Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department told Satin that officers were outside of Caesars Palace for an unrelated incident when they were notified of a woman who was seen running through the streets. After law enforcement approached the woman, she was quickly detained. They determined that she needed to be transported to a nearby hospital for undisclosed reasons.
Satin was told the woman was Paige, but law enforcement was unable to verify her name due to HIPAA laws. No charges were filed against Paige; WWE said in a statement that it was conducting an investigation into the incident.
Paige wrestled the following night on Raw, where she challenged Charlotte for the WWE Women’s Championship. Though Paige was unable to beat Charlotte for the title, the fact that she appeared at all, much less in a competitive bout, would seem to indicate that her standing with WWE was unaffected by the incident.
The incident was discussed by former WCW star Konnan on MLW Radio, who provided details he received from Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio was present with Paige when the incident went down.
According to Konnan, Paige and Del Rio went to see the variety show Absinthe at Caesars Palace after Money in the Bank. While there, a drunk couple began heckling them. This led to a confrontation where Paige was “accosted,” prompting law enforcement to be called.
Once the authorities arrived to the scene, everyone involved was handcuffed while they took statements to determine what happened. Paige was taken to an ambulance to confirm that she wasn’t hurt during the argument. After paramedics confirmed Paige was fine, she and Del Rio were permitted to leave without being charged.
Konnan confirmed an earlier report from PWInsider.com that there was nothing to reports saying an argument between Del Rio and Paige occurred. He also said neither was drunk.
The WWE landscape dramatically changed following the 2016 WWE Draft on July 19 as SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon, SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan, Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon and Raw General Manager Mick Foley selected WWE Superstars to come to their respective brands. For Paige and Alberto Del Rio, this also meant a dramatic change in both their professional and personal lives.
With the No. 29 overall pick in the Draft, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan selected Del Rio to SmackDown LIVE. Then, with the No. 35 overall pick, Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley drafted Paige to Raw.
During WWE’s coverage of the Draft on the WWE Network, Del Rio appeared very unhappy about being moved to SmackDown LIVE during an interview with Greg Hamilton reacting to the news. Booker T, who was working as a panelist on WWE Draft Center Live, later made a few remarks about Paige likely being upset about being drafted to Raw. While many fans assumed that Booker had insinuated that Paige was upset about being split from Del Rio, he blamed her anger on being selected late in the Draft.
Rumors then began circulating that the two might have split up as some fans noticed the day after the WWE Draft that Paige had deleted all photos of Del Rio from her Instagram account. The Total Divas star has in the past deleted Instagram photos following a break up with a boyfriend, as she did with musician Kevin Skaff.
To add even more confusion, some fans also noticed that Paige began following Skaff again on Instagram! Not only that, but Paige then reposted photos of Del Rio on Instagram — a shot of the two in a parking lot, and Del Rio in India.
“These were deleted from my Instagram for some reason so I’m reposting,” she claimed three days after the WWE Draft. “I’ll be rewriting the captions too suckers when I finish my travel day ya hearrrr.”
To really put the rumor to rest, Paige tweeted this photo and romantic message the very next week.
Just about everything that could have gone wrong with Alberto Del Rio‘s second stint in WWE seems to have, and his exit was shaping up to be the messiest part of the entire situation.
In discussing and offering confirmation that the 39-year-old notified WWE officials he was exercising an escape clause in his contract, podcast host Mister Saint Laurent (a/k/a MSL) also provided details backing rumors that management disliked Del Rio’s romance with Paige.
On his MLW Radio Network podcast with legendary wrestler Kevin Sullivan, MSL & Sullivan, MSL alleged the couple was harassed by a member of WWE management and that Paige’s job was threatened if she didn’t end the relationship.
“I do know that Mark Carrano, who fans might know from Total Divas, kind of like the office liaison guy, approached Del Rio and Paige individually and harassed each of them about their relationship. It was indicated that the office wanted them to sever their romantic relationship,” MSL said on the September 2, 2016 show.
He continued, “A lot of people speculated if this was the reason (the company) spit them up in the Draft and that’s definitely what happened. The company did not want them together. They split them up in the Draft by design and they threatened to fire Paige if she didn’t break up with Del Rio.”
MSL and the whole crew over at MLW are pretty well-connected, particularly with Del Rio [they were the outlet which reported new details on Del Rio and Paige’s incident in Las Vegas involving police and an ambulance], so there’s cause to give this report more credence — and scrutiny — than many other rumors floating around. But it is still a third-hand accounting.
WWE has publicly denied the allegations. After Keith Harris of CagesideSeats.com reached out to WWE for comment on the story, a spokesperson said there is no truth to it.
“I can tell you that isn’t true, both your question about harassment and the threat of being fired,” the WWE spokesperson said.
According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor Dave Meltzer, there was also a rumor going around that Del Rio called Carrano on the matter and Carrano went silent.
While Meltzer doesn’t believe Paige was harassed over her relationship with Del Rio, he does feel it factored into WWE’s decision to split them apart in the Draft.
“It’s hard to believe anyone in WWE would say anything directly like that to Paige,” Meltzer remarked in the September 12, 2016 edition of his newsletter. “As far as the idea both were talked to about it, that’s possible as the story was they were like high schoolers when they together backstage. As far as what words were actually used and how they were interpreted is the question.”
Meltzer continued, “The reality is they were put on different brands when everyone in decision making power knew full well they were a couple and it’s impossible to believe them being a couple wasn’t figured into the decision. Carmella and Cass were as well, but that was different in the sense that they wanted to get Carmella over as a wrestler on her own and not part of the Enzo and Cass team so there was a business reason and that decision was made months ago when they didn’t bring her up as part of the act. But to outright say if you don’t break up with your boyfriend you’ll be fired, that’s more questionable. It’s just difficult for me to believe someone in that position would ever say that because of the legal implications.”
WWE Hall of Famer and legendary broadcaster Jim Ross also offered his take on the situation.
“Personal relationships within the pro wrestling business are daunting. I’ve said that for years. Most ‘pro wrestling romances’ aren’t successful over the long haul, but the point is that no company will ever have any success in legislating such. I’m not sure that any companies are attempting to intervene, namely WWE and the Alberto Del Rio/Paige relationship. I’m not a believer of every internet rumor that I read nor do I think that WWE would condone such interactions with staff and talents,” he stated in a blog post on jrsbarbq.com.
Ross continued, “It’s impossible to dictate personal relationships in any business especially when those in question are independent contractors. If Paige is totally committed in her personal life with Alberto Del Rio, and which she has the right to pursue, I’d be surprised if she returns to WWE any time soon. Hope I’m wrong as it relates to the apparent, troubled careers of both talents.”
Regardless, it’s now entered into a conversation which already included contentious divorce proceedings and Wellness Policy suspensions for both Del Rio and Paige — continuing this story’s reputation as one of the more scandalous in recent memory.
On August 17, 2016, WWE announced that Alberto Del Rio and Paige had both been suspended for violating the organization’s talent wellness policy.
It was the first time either competitor had been suspended, and both were for 30 days. Both suspensions went into effect the following day.
WWE’s announcement on Del Rio’s suspension came first.
“WWE has suspended Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) for 30 days effective Thursday, Aug. 18, for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy,” WWE said in its statement.
Del Rio had wrestled the night before on SmackDown Live. Taking on frequent foe John Cena, “The Essence of Excellence” was soundly beaten in the main event of the show.
Hours after the suspension of Del Rio was announced, WWE made its announcement on Paige (and on her 24th birthday no less).
“WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) for 30 days effective Thursday, Aug. 18, for her first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy,” WWE announced.
While the couple’s respective suspensions were announced separately, they were announced together in a subsequent press release on the organization’s corporate website.
“WWE has suspended Saraya-Jade Bevis (Paige) and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) each for 30 days effective tomorrow, August 18, for a first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy,” the statement read.
Exactly what Del Rio and Paige took or did to be suspended has been publicly withheld. There are always rumors, and the knee-jerk speculation will naturally point to performance-enhancing drugs since the professional wrestling industry has a long and storied history with those. Yet the couple being very public about their personal activities outside of the ring, then getting punished with matching suspensions, adds an extra level of intrigue to the situation. However, according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor Dave Meltzer, the couple did not test positive for the same substance.
Del Rio saw his second stint in WWE come to an end while serving the 30-day suspension. On September 9, 2016, WWE announced that both parties mutually agreed upon the terms of his release.
“WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016,” WWE stated.
“My business relationship with @WWE has come to an end in good terms,” Del Rio tweeted minutes later. “Thanks for the opportunities they gave me.”
Later that day, Del Rio claimed in an interview that he was suspended for using testosterone replacement therapy which was prescribed by his doctor. The suspension also factored into his decision to once again part ways with WWE.
“It was that and along with many more things that made me not want to be there. But there are rules. Their Wellness Program is one of their rules. I can’t call it absurd because when you work for them, you sign a contract. You know that you are subject to their terms. I don’t think it’s fair because there is a big difference in people using medication to obtain better … (he wanted to say performance-enhancing) physical performance,” Del Rio told Más Lucha.
He continued, “But when it is like in my case, a testosterone replacement, where I am a 40-year-old man and it is a medical matter that I have proof of from my doctors. I don’t think it is something fair. But I come back to the same thing. It’s their Wellness Policy and you have to abide to it. So yeah that was part of it, but not all of it. There were many reasons. But it did help me to make the decision to say, “Goodbye, see you later. I don’t want to be in this company.”
Following Del Rio’s exit from WWE, rumors surfaced that Paige was planning on following him out the door. That matter was considered closed after she released a statement on Twitter clarifying her status with the organization.
“First, I’d like to thank all my fans for their love and support the last few weeks. Let me begin by saying that the rumors I’m leaving the WWE are completely false! I certainly look forward to returning back to action at some point, once my injury is treated and on a healthy return,” Paige wrote.
WWE does not disclose details about violations in regards to why a sanction is levied, but Paige insisted she was not suspended for failing a drug test. Rather, it was due to a “procedural issue” with Aegis (Aegis Sciences Corporation), the company that administers drug testing for WWE.
“Although I was disappointed by my suspension, I respect the WWE’s Wellness Policy. However, let me be clear that I was not suspended for failing a drug test, it was merely due to a procedural issue. I took the test, I passed it,” she wrote.
Paige continued, “I arranged said test to happen after I wasn’t at home when aegis contacted me. So I drove 200 miles to do it. Unfortunately I didn’t do it on time, according to Aegis. Once again, thank you for all the love and support!”
So that’s their side of the story on being suspended from WWE. Now there will be those who choose not to believe them, but that’s with anything controversial like this.
Wedding bells are ringing! Wedding bells are ringing!
Paige gave wrestling fans all around the globe a huge surprise on October 16, 2016 when she dropped down to one knee inside the squared circle and asked Alberto Del Rio for his hand in marriage. This took place moments after the former WWE Superstar’s match against Carlito at World Wrestling Council’s WWC Aniversario show in Bayamón, Puerto Rico at Palacio de Recreación y Deportes in Mayaguez.
As seen in footage captured by fans, Paige is dressed casually in jeans and a tank top as she catches her now-fiancé completely off-guard with the proposal. Del Rio then walks around the ring in shock while she waits for his answer.
He eventually accepts and seals the deal with a sweet, sweet kiss!
Here is footage from three different angles of the marriage proposal.
An ecstatic Paige spoke on camera afterward and said she felt good about popping the question — mainly because it would have been embarrassing if he had said “no” in front of a bunch of people.
She then commemorated the momentous occasion with a heartfelt post on Instagram dedicated to her future husband.
Paige’s father, Ricky Knight, does not approve of his daughter marrying Del Rio. The day after the proposal, he wrote on his personal Facebook account, “Putting this [sic] out there then saying no more, about it to anyone I am totally against my daughter marrying that man statement over.”
Knight removed the post shortly thereafter, but not before Paige’s brother commented, “Hope you’re [sic] ok dad,,silly girl,,the truth will come out stay strong bud, hate seeing my family hurt.”
In yet another shocking twist to this love story, it was sensationally claimed that Del Rio is still legally married.
Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reached out to Raymond Rafool, a lawyer representing Del Rio’s wife Angela Velkei, to ask if their divorce had been finalized yet.
“No. They are far from it at this stage,” Rafool said in a statement. “Of course, Paige should watch carefully how Alberto is denying and treating his current wife and the mother of his children in this divorce. History repeats itself.”
While Alberto Del Rio and Paige look to be having a lot of fun together these days, it may not last.
Paige was once engaged to musician Kevin Skaff, a guitarist for the rock band A Day To Remember. She broke things off with him in late 2015, citing her history of not being good at having a serious relationships. The Norwich, England native’s hesitance at remaining in a long-term, committed relationship was quite evident in her explanation of their breakup to a friend.
“I was just like, ‘Yeah, I don’t know, I just didn’t feel like I wanted a relationship right now,'” Paige told her friend Danielle on Total Divas. “But I told him right from the start, I’m not very good at relationships. It’s not as if I’ll cheat on you, but I get freaked out quick and I wanna leave.”
Paige said that she broke the news to Skaff on the eve of their first anniversary together. The episode of Total Divas where they broke up was filmed months in advance, but the WWE Superstar wouldn’t tell exactly what happened.
Paige said she wanted to make her relationship with Skaff work, but felt it wasn’t the right time for her.
“I’m really sad it didn’t work out with Kevin and I because I really did want it to work,” Paige said. “I really loved Kevin, I loved spending time with him. Even though I felt terrible and guilty, it’s just … it’s for the best.”
Despite her dating history, Paige feels Del Rio is “the one.”
She tweeted this movie quote to him in July:
I guarantee that we’ll have tough times. I guarantee that sooner or later one, or both of us will want to get out. But I also guarantee that if I dont ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.. because I know in my heart you’re the only one for me.
